Zanker Welcomes Mr. Jaime Soria as our New Assistant Principal
Starting January 12th, you will see a new face around our Zanker Community. Mr. Jaime Soria was the Vice Principal/Learning Director in Fresno at American Union Elementary School. He has served as a summer school principal, and has been an intermediate teacher. Mr. Soria was responsible for the English Language Development program at his school as well as the Response to Intervention student study team. We look forward to our students and parents welcoming him to our staff.
Zanker Spelling Bee
Zanker and Southwest Airlines Team Up!
Through a partnership between Milpitas Unified School District, Our City Forest and Southwest Airlines, on Saturday, January 7, 2017, over 100 volunteers came out in the rain and planted 25 young trees around the Zanker campus.
Roger Silveira, Supervisor of Grounds, Transportation, Vehicle Maintenance, and Safety for our district is spearheading the efforts to bring together the individual groups of this partnership. Southwest Airlines were the financial backers of the work. Our City Forest worked with MUSD to select drought tolerant and resistant trees to fit in with our current presence of trees and foliage on our campus.
Volunteers were made up of Zanker Elementary students, parents and staff, Rancho Middle School students and parents, Milpitas High School students, Southwest Airlines employees, and volunteers with Our City Forest. The event was documented through photography by the Earth Day Network.

The Milpitas Unified School District sent CAASPP Results home to all current 4th, 5th, 6th, and 7th grade students registered at Zanker during the 2015-16 school year along with this letter from the Interim Superintendent, Cheryl Jordan. If you have not received it by August 31st, please stop by the front office and we can make a copy for you.

2016-2017 Pupil Registration Information
Online Registration for the 2016-2017 School Year is ongoing. This is for all incoming kindergartners who turned 5 years old on or before September 1st, 2010 and for all new students to Zanker School. Registration must be submitted online at http://www.musd.org/enroll--transfer.html BEFORE any paperwork can be submitted in the office. Once you receive an email confirming the registration process, you can come in with your necessary paperwork.
The following information is required to complete the registration process:
- Original Birth Certificate (Kindergarten must be born September 1, 2011 or before.)
- Guardian's Driver License (must be in Zanker's attendance area)
- PG&E or Water Bill
- Mortgage Statement or *Rental Agreement dated within 1 year. (*Trans 02 and *Property Owner's Driver's License)
- Language Survey
- Dental Screening (Kindergarten and 1st Grade, given after September 1, 2015)
- Immunizations (4 Polio, 5 DTP, 2 MMR, 3 Hepatitis B, 1 Varicella, *TB)
(*TB for Kindergarten must be completed within 6 months prior to school start date. Given on or after February 11, 2016. 1st-6th grade within 6 months if out of Santa Clara County.)
- Health Examination (Required for Kindergarten and 1st Grade, given on or after March 1, 2016.)
Registration is not complete until all required items have been submitted. Only at that time, your child will receive a registration number. The first day of the school year is Thursday, August 11th. Students must be present to guarantee their seat.
This year we are participating in a hassle-free fundraiser called Shoparoo. Nationwide, 7,000+ schools are already fundraising through Shoparoo and we see it as great opportunity for us to make a difference this year.
All you need to do is take pictures of your grocery receipts with the Shoparoo app made for your smartphone. It doesn’t matter where you shop or what you buy - every receipt submitted results in a donation to our school!
So, what are you waiting for? Simply download the free app from the Apple App Store or the Google Play Store by searching ‘shoparoo’ and then select our school as your chosen cause. Since there is no limit to how much money we can raise with Shoparoo, be sure to invite your friends and neighbors to join in – every receipt counts!
